Airport Literacy
I love going to the airport. It is not uncommon to hear comments about how people are not reading as much anymore, but one trip to the airport is a testament of all the reading that people do. From time to time I would just look around and marvel at all the signs of literacy. Newspapers, Kindles, iPads, books, magazines, children's books. People from all ages were reading a diverse mix of genres. Others were busy typing or writing away. Ah, what a breath of fresh air.

I'd never thought of this, but you are absolutely right - I see this on the train as well...and it does my reading/writing teacher heart good!
ReplyDeleteYou know what I find fascinating? The airport bookstores that have a book-borrowing system, kind of like a library. That kind of book lending, combined with travel, gives me reassurance that literacy is alive and well. :)

I had never realized that there was a book-borrowing system in the airports - that is another testament to literacy.
